Wretch 32 has blasted Airbnb, claiming they cancelled his booking because the host allegedly had an issue with “Coloured folk & felt uncomfortable”.

The rapper from London, real name Jermaine Scott Sinclair, was celebrating his 33rd birthday yesterday, Saturday 9 March.

However, he claims things didn't go to plan after his Airbnb host realised he was black.

This led to Wretch having his booking cancelled with Airbnb then allegedly taking half of the money he had already paid, despite the host's reason for the cancellation being racist.

Writing on Twitter, Wretch said: "Imagine @Airbnb_uk cancelled my booking, stole half my money because the host had an issue with “Coloured folk & felt uncomfortable” I’ve heard of birthday beats but not birthday teefs".

Several people responded citing similar issues of racial discrimination when booking rental properties.

Bussinessman William Adoasi, who is also black, said, "Always gotta book @Airbnb through a white friend. Only way".

While a student going by the name Mona Nisa commented, "Sad that I’ve learnt to always book through a white friend with AirBnB or send the host a message prior to my trip so they know I’m black".

Many were understandably shocked.  "I literally can't get my head round this. So disgusting", actress Sarah Akokhia said. Equally taken aback, Journalist Karina Barker said: "Coloured folk?" Where were you planning to, 1950s Alabama?? Shocked and sorry that this is still happenning in 2019."

We contacted Airbnb about Wretch 32's claims and a spokesperson told The National Student, “We were concerned to hear about this experience and have reached out to Wretch32 and his management to learn more. Discrimination has no place on Airbnb and goes against everything our community stands for.”
