King's College London has decided to bring cleaners and security in-house.

Students, cleaners and lecturers have been rallying outside the Strand campus since 4 pm awaiting results of the decision.

Last week, Goldmsiths uni management made a decision to bring cleaners in-house.

The Justice for Cleaners group has been campaigning for cleaners and security to be brought in-house. This means that they will be directly employed by the university rather than through contractors and will be given the same rights and benefits as other members of staff.

Principal Ed Byrne released a statement confirming the news.

Cleaners and security will be brought in-house at the end of King's existing contract with their current suppliers Servest. The switch is expected to take place in 2019.
