Breaking: Fire breaks out in student accommodation block

Six fire engines and 35 firefighters raced to the scene of a fire at a student accommodation block in London, today.

The blaze which is now under control reportedly broke out in the basement of Liberty House, St John Street, Clerkenwell.

London Fire Brigade say part of an electrical room in the basement was alight and has been damaged by the fire, however, there are no reports of any injuries.

The Brigade was called at 12.54pm, with fire crews from Shoreditch, Lambeth, Islington, Soho and Whitechapel fire stations dispatched to the scene.

Located in the borough of Islington, Liberty House accommodates students from several universities in the capital, including those studying at City University and King's College London.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
