Voters in the constituency of Hackney North and Stoke Newington have remained loyal to Labour candidate Diane Abbott, their MP of 30 years, by once again voting her in.

Although many constituency seats came down to a majority of only a couple of percent, due to unexpected swing votes, Abbott convincingly won the seat with a landslide majority of 35,000 votes.

Even more impressively, especially given the repeated negative coverage she received in the press, Abbott managed to further increased her hold on the area, with an upwards swing in voting of 12.2%.

Her re-election follows Abbott being forced to step down from her position as the Labour Party's shadow home secretary due to a period of ill health.

Barry Gardiner, Labour's shadow secretary of state for international trade, commented that he believed the recently diagnosed illness to be long-term and hoped that people would excuse her "under par" performance based on the circumstances.

Ultimately voters do seem to have taken heed for Gardiner's advice, with a majority of 35,000 being almost unimaginable following Abbott's string of particularly difficult interviews. Her illness has even inspired two Londoners to set up a crowdfunder to help finance a care package for the MP.
