Brace yourselves, folks. We have news you’re not going to like: the UK is facing a hummus shortage.

Yep, our country’s obsession with the Middle Eastern dip is going to have to take a backseat for a while due to a production problem causing Sainsbury’s to pull their own brand hummus from the shelves until further notice.

As if that wasn’t enough, Marks and Spencer recently recalled hummus from their shelves due to production issues. However, in order to avoid controversy, both supermarkets have reassured customers that their recipes have not been changed. Well, thank heavens for that!

Britain's love for hummus has led us to being dubbed the 'hummus capital of Europe', so we're all understandably quite worried what to do without our favourite dip - just what will we eat unleavened bread and carrot sticks with now?

Well, if you’re suffering withdrawal symptoms from hummus, you could always make your own. It's simple and easy, with very few ingredients: chickpeas, garlic, lemon and sesame paste are all you need for your own version in no time at all.
