Diving champ Tom Daley has announced that he is bisexual - and has been in a relationship with a man for more than six months. The Olympic pro, who has often laughed off rumours that he is gay, posted a heartfelt video on his Youtube page earlier today. In it the 19-year-old insists that he “likes girls” and only began dating the mystery man back in the spring. In his message he thanks his fans, saying: “Come spring this year, my life changed massively when I met someone and it made me feel so happy, so safe and everything just feels great. “And that someone is a guy - and it did take me by surprise a little bit.” He added: “It was always in the back of my head that something like that could happen but it wasn't until spring this year that something just clicked, it felt right and I was like, "Ah ok" and my whole world changed right here and then.” Daley, who already enjoys a large gay following, previously insisted that he didn’t like talking about his private life, after his father died of a brain tumour in 2011. He says that although his mum Debbie fully supported his decision to come out, other family members reacted with “mixed feelings.” He says: “I told the rest of my family today and, well, let’s just say they had mixed opinions. Lots of them didn’t believe it. Lots of them wanted me to keep it quiet.” Fans took to Twitter in their droves to post supportive tweets, including comedian Graham Norton, who tweeted: “Good on you Tom! Never easy to come out or find love and you managed both! Congratulations.” Others showing their support included Team GB diver Jack Laugher, Boy George, singer Lucy Spraggan, and Olympic rower Matthew Pinsent. Daley is flying to Houston, Texas, for a training camp shortly before Christmas, and is expected to return to the ITV diving show Splash! in the New Year.
