Wickedis the award winning musical that is loved by millions around the world – and now you’ve got the chance to win a host of prizes with its young writers competition.

Based on the novel ‘Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West’ by Gregory Maguire the Wicked musical follows a misunderstood young woman finding the confidence to express herself and stand up for others.

In 2010, Wickedlaunched the Wicked Young Writers' Award to inspire these same values in young people between the ages of five to 25 and give them the chance to showcase their literary talents.

The award promotes creativity and excellence in writing and helps develop writing talent in young people from all backgrounds and areas of the UK and Ireland.

Over four years, the judges have read over 10,000 entries revealing a wide range of different voices and themes based on what young people are seeing in the world around them. Entries can be in the form of stories or poems and are judged on originality and creativity by best-selling author, former Children’s Laureate and Chair Judge Michael Morpurgo, as well as poet Dean Atta who won the 2012 London Poetry Award and was named as one of the most influential LGBT people by the Independent on Sunday Pink List 2012.

If you’re looking for an extra something to add to your CV, put pen to paper and submit your entry before the closing date of 31st March 2014. The Wicked Young Writers’ Awardhas an entry category for years 18-25 and is a brilliant way to help practice your writing skills.
