BAFTA are hosting an event aimed at young people that want to break into the television industry, whether it’s writing, production or anything in between.

The BAFTA TV Forum: Generation Next is a day-long event taking place on 10th May, featuring a host of high-profile speakers and networking opportunities for young people dreaming of a career in television. Busting some of the many myths that surround the industry, the event will equip budding runners, writers and directors with invaluable skills, like how to market yourself with an industry-specific CV and how to protect your valuable intellectual property.

Headlining the speakers at the event is Tim Hinks, President of Endemol – the world’s largest production company, responsible for shows such as Big Brother, Deal or No Deal, 8 out of 10 Cats and the critically acclaimed Black Mirror. Tim will deliver his inspirational talk at the start of the day on how he made his big break, what makes the very best creative ideas and why the television industry is such a fantastic place to carve out a career. Other speakers include Sam Bain, the writer of Peep Show and Fresh Meat; Philippa Lowthorpe and David Thrasher, director and editor of Call the Midwife respectively; Lisa McGee, writer of London Irish; Helen Veale, creative director of Outline Productions; and many more that round up the day’s excellent line-up.

As well as the talks from key speakers, the event will offer a series of craft masterclasses, and a case study of how a popular television show makes it from a concept onto our screens. There is also a networking drinks session allowing anyone the opportunity to make contact with some of the best creative minds in the industry.
