Canadian hipster demigod, Mac DeMarco broke two years of studio silence with the song ‘Nobody’ released last month, alongside which came the announcement of a new album Here Comes the Cowboy due for release on 10th May. Continuing in the somewhat downtrodden vein of the previous single, the latest track ‘All Of Our Yesterdays’ adds some colour in the chorus’s detuned countermelody.

‘Nobody’, which came out alongside a video featuring the songsmith performing in a disturbing full-face lizard prosthetic met with controversy on its release for sharing a title with the Mitski single from her album Be the Cowboy. Although fans were quick to defend her, Mitski shrugged the similarity off as tapping the same ‘collective unconscious’ and Mac claimed to be unaware of the record’s existence.

‘All Of Our Yesterdays’ seems to be a sort of sequel to 2017’s ‘Dreams from Yesterday’ off the album This Old Dog, but instead of the claves or wailing synth line we have slide guitar and an instrumental palette more in common with 2. The closely-recorded acoustic strums and chucks plus the signature muted bass show continuity, but this new single seems to wear its melancholy on its sleeve against the more subdued ‘Nobody’.
