Festival season is bearing down on us once again.

Lukewarm pints, new tunes and the potential to get sunburn in a pair of wellies. The British festival season is nothing but unpredictable, but one thing that is absolutely predictable is the volume of pre-festival content we'll be posting in the next couple of months.

Rebūke via Listen Up PR

To spice things up a bit, we asked rising Irish DJ and producer Rebūke to walk us through a handful of his favourite house and techno records that can spice up any pre-festi playlist.

A notable staple in the Irish electronic scene, Rebūke has a penchant for 90s rave records, house and techno all clashed together to create a fresh new groove. With plays from BBC Radio 1 and a hell of a back catalogue of juicy remixes under his belt, we thought who better to sprinkle some magic on our ageing playlists.

Opus III - It's A Fine Day (Burt Fox Remix)

Originally recorded in a cappella by Jane in 1983, and later by Opus III in 1992, 'It's A Fine Day' is a near-perfect example of 90s dance music gone right. Rebūke finds joy in the lighthearted original, but its Burt Fox that brings something new: "The original is an amazing rave classic and I love the haunting spin Burt Fox put on this remix."

Xpansions - Move Your Body (Rebūke Remix)

Chances are if you're a fan of dance music you'll have lost yourself many a time to Xpansions' 'Move Your Body'. Rebūke's DIY-mix of the rave classic has the radio play approval of Danny Howard and Pete Tong, so before you swear it off, give it a spin: "I loved the original for years and had a lot of fun ripping it apart and putting my spin on it!"

Nic Fanciulli - Saying (Kölsch Remix)

"Love the rave vibe to this, it goes off every time I play it" is a pretty good accolade for a track from a seasoned DJ. Give Nic Fanciulli's original a go before turning it up a notch with the Kölsch remix, and thank us later for upping your pre-festival season playlist by 100%.

Ejeca - Unloving (Special Request Remix)

Belfast-based DJ Ejeca makes Rebūke's top five for the "gnarly synths and banging beats". The fat kick drums and tinny hi-hats are the perfect combo to get you in the mood for some seriously dirty festival sound systems. We dare you not to get your skank on to this.

Rebūke - Along Came Polly

'Along Came Polly' is something a little bit different. According to the top comment on YouTube, if you've got a high IQ the ticking hats are strikingly similar to a woodpecker, but that's a different story for another day. A deep, tech-house banger released in December last year, Rebūke pulls on 90s rave influences with simple and effective drops and a low-riding bassline.

Pig & Dan - Lost Another Angel

Rebūke is pulled into 'Lost Another Angel' by its "melodic and euphoric feels" conjured through hand-played synths and a hypnotic bassline. He continues, "I used to be a huge trance fan back in the day before it went to shit, so I'm a fan of melodies and chord structures like this." If you're keen to dabble into something a little old-school before heading into the festival site, this one's for you.
