Free Throw hail from Nashville, Tennessee, and will likely add to the city’s already legendary musical heritage by bringing a distinct, emotionally vulnerable take on the math-rock sounds of the American Midwest southward.

This latest track, ‘The Corner’s Dilemma’, sees chunky guitars and shouty vocals meet serious and eloquently expressed lyrical matter that confronts the protagonist’s existential crisis.

‘The Corner’s Dilemma’ is the first single to be released thus far in the run-up to the band’s third full-length album What’s Past Is Prologue (out 29th March), which the band says is about realising that “everything in your life needs to change.” In the music video, we find ourselves at a boisterous party with the five musicians making up Free Throw crammed into the nook indicated in the title as Cory Castro, the lead vocalist bellows, ‘this body’s a rental’, from the bottom of his lungs.

It’s a tune about partying too much and masking depression with excessive indulgence – a theme recurrent across the band’s discography. This time though, enough is enough and it sounds like a breakthrough has been made.

The Corner's Dilemma is out now.
