The Californian indie singer Chris Cohen has announced the release of a self-titled album on 29th March. Three years after his sophomore As If Apart, Cohen’s new record will take us on an introspective journey, between freedom and frustration:

“My parents got divorced while I was making this record, they were married for 53 years and my father spent most of his life in the closet, hiding both his sexual identity and various drug addictions. For me it was like being relieved of a great burden, like my life could finally begin”, he says.

The lush and sometimes complex harmonic structure of the song, contrasting with the lo-fi vibes of its production, is reminiscent of Ariel Pink’s early work and Cohen brings his signature charm in his falsely blasé voice and lyrics.

Cohen describes the 'Green Eyes' as being about “the men in my family and how they passed their worldview along to each other from great emotional distances [...] We all wanted closeness, but never found it in each other.”
