London-based three-piece Calva Louise
release their palpitating and energetic scuzzy-pop single 'Tug Of War', accompanied by a music video in which the band go head-on in a particularly heated game of chess.
Image Credit: Kiera Cullinane'Tug Of War' sees frontwoman Jess Allanic displaying an impressive diversity in her vocals, which come off like a sour bonbon, as her sugar-coated harmonies culminate with a kick of acidity, within the most belligerent lyrics. The single plays on the meta allegory of relationships as a calculated and artful game, visualising them as the vibrant but exhausting game of a tug of war. Allanic warns in the chorus hook "Don't hurt yourself trying to get away", implying the futility of exerting pain in love. Accompanied by the vibrant and kitsch single artwork, which features a rhino, a pair of boxing gloves and defaced images of the band, it captures the playful, yet biting sound the band are putting out right now. Fresh off the back of a support slot with The Blinders, the band recently released dates for a 2019 European tour, where they'll take on cities including Manchester, London, Glasgow, Leeds and Liverpool. Expect to see the band on 'ones to watch' lists for the prospective year, and check out 'Tug Of War' to find out why.
