Formed in 2015, the now London-based, Swedish post-rock quartet JUNODEF are more than what meets the eye. Their latest single, 'Heights', unpicks the essence of realisation and fear.

"'Heights' is the moment just before the inevitable happens, the place where everything is still fine and normal; where time has stopped and all your energy is directed towards enjoying important relationships and moments, but with the underlying knowledge that it will soon be gone.” The quartet explained in the lead up to the single's release. After a first listen, you can taste the time-stricken joy in its lyrics.

Starting with a slow, pluck of a guitar accompanied by a synth drum, the instrumentals are soon taken over by a poignant bassline and muted tones. 'Heights' is carried by a sombre background with Karin Grönkvist's captivating vocals situated perfectly over the top. The single certainly has a PJ Harvey and Warpaint twang.

JUNODEF are on a mission to change the way gender and sexuality are perceived in the industry; the band work with organisations such as Girls Rock London to get young girls, trans, and non-binary people to play music and use it as a tool for change.
