London six-piece ALASKALASKA only formed a year and a half ago but are already attracting significant attention. Featured in NME as the 'UK’s most eclectic new live band', the group’s members are widely regarded as impressive live performers. ALASKALASKA’s music is an interesting blend of diverse styles and genres, described by lead singer Lucinda as “art dream-pop”. The band is heavily jazz-influenced with a vibrant combination of funk and disco hues, creating a playful, yet memorable sound. ‘Patience’ is just a taste of ALASKALASKA’s upcoming self-titled EP, due to be released on the 29th September. This piece starts off light with synthetic beats and gradually escalates to a rather sophisticated musical composition. The unconventional, yet symbiotic relationship between the diverse range of sounds is ever further established by the vocals. The ephemeral voice of the lead comes as a natural progression from the synthetic soundscape. The track finishes with an unexpected, yet relevant quirky jazz improvisation. ALASKALASKA is certainly an exhilarating group.
