Various venues - Derby

The East Midlands is a veritable hot bed of awesome musical talent, not least the town of Derby, which is why the addition of the inner-city, multi-venue 2Q festival makes total sense.

2q festivalThe county is already awash with great festivals but for this one the guys behind Y Not Festival are bringing it into the city, with no more than 10 minutes walk between all the venues.

The backbone of the event is built from brilliant bands from the city like polyrhythmic, folk-pop duo Scribble Victory, electronic three-piece Haiku Salut, dream-pop wonders Grawl!x and noise-rock three piece Unqualified Nurse Band.

The rest of the bill has a fine array of established and new acts. At the top end of the bill Reverend and the Makers, Little Comets, We Are The Ocean, Eliza And The Bear, Rolo Tomassi and Lucy Sprangan.

Exclusively in ‘intimate venues’ this is the kind of event to catch new and established bands in the best way possible – up-close-and-personal.

Certainly bands like Spring King look set to go on to much bigger things, so it is worth catching them now. If something a bit heavier is your thing, Hactivist with their metal/hip hop fusion are worth showing up for.

As if that wasn’t a big enough sell, for the £20 ticket price you’ll also get sets from D.I.D, Duke Special, Jaws, The Sherlocks, Seafret, April Towers amongst loads of others.

And even if there is a lull in the music you want to see (which there won’t be) the city is renowned for its local breweries, so you can just slip off for some excellent beer.
