Provided we can put Katy Perry's Super Bowl performance behind us, February is already beginning to be a good month for music.

Girlpool - China Town

Part of a vanguard of strong female acts blossoming as the influence of riot grrl kicks off another musical 'girl revolution' Californian two-pieceGirlpool just get better. This is a breezy tune full of wistful romanticism. Their stripped back, understated sound amplifies the pairs perfect harmonies and allows their eccentric lyrics to take centre stage.

Seven Davis Jr - Wild Hearts

Ahead of his debut album, electronic prodigy Seven Davis Jr has unveiled this effortlessly addictive slice of futuristic funk. Channeling the sounds of soul classics, through the ambience of old sci-fi soundtracks 'Wild Hearts' is a groove-ridden, dishevelled musical nugget.

Noir Noir - Claustrophobic Love

Mancunian rockers Noir Noir have emphatically announced themselves with debut single ‘Claustrophobic Love.’ Taking cues from Kyuss and Queens Of The Stone Age, they channel the grit of the desert (which they don't have a lot of in Manc) with their brand of stoner rock.

Big Sean ft. Drake & Kanye West - Blessings

Grawl!x - Atlas Bear

James Machin used to be in the wonderful My Psychoanalyst, and is back with the equally wonderful Grawl!x, taking on a more ambient approach to indie songwriting. Taken from their upcoming album, ‘Good Grief,’ is beautifully restrained, with the instrumentation used sparingly to amplify the emotional delivery of the worlds. Stunning stuff!

AWOLNATION - Hollow Moon

Electro rockers AWOLNATION pick up exactly where they left off in 2011, continuing to experiment with their genre defying sound on 'Hollow Moon.' The infectious, synth-drenched track combines distorted, pendular verses with rhythmic, hook filled choruses, and the track’s pop elements are contrasted with an unexpected dance rock breakdown.

Kate Tempest - Bad Place for a Good Time

Hip hop story-teller Kate Tempest returns with this meloncholy number. Her jaded vocal delivery and the dissonant, piano backdrop offset by mournful beats all portray the hopelessness she is trying to portray, painting a picture of urban gloom.
