Back in 2004, the best female group on the planet called it a day at the height of their musical powers.
This week, their label Sub Pop dropped a remastered, career-spanning boxset of all their wonderful albums – we’ve all known about this for months.
What no one was expecting was a new song (slipped inside the box set and coming complete with an awesome new video), a new album and a tour!
Yes, Sleater Kinney are back!
Emerging off the back of the first wave of the riot grrl movement back in 1994, they gave us ten years and set a new bar for punk’s political insight and emotional impact. They were called ‘America’s best rock band’ by Timeout, which is not overselling them at all.
That new track ‘Bury Your Friends’ is a grand return, packed with the same visceral energy of their best moments with a infectious pop hook and catchy chorus. The song is the precursor to new album No Cities to Love due out in January.
