With a name like Raving Wild, you’d be forgiven for expecting today’s New Band of The Day to be taken from the Friendly Fires school of dance music. But singer-songwriter Graham Iddon takes a much less frenetic approach to songwriting, crafting a sound that is delicate yet powerful, embedding subtle instrumental intricacies within hook-heavy ballads. This approach is most evident on 'Made of Gold', a sparse, melancholic track that draws heavily on the blues inflected folk sound made popular by Ben Howard. A restrained, pulsating riff drives the track along, complimenting Iddon’s gruff, weary vocals and contributing to the thinly veiled desperation the lyrics convey.Iddon’s latest and most exciting offering is 'Winterheart', a vocal led track that shines in its simplicity. A calm, understated, melody meanders throughout the song, augmenting the fragile vocal hooks and granting the track a rustic charm. While this economic approach to songwriting isn’t anything new, it is by no means formulaic, with much of the tracks appeal lying in its authenticity.A promising start to 2014 has seen Iddon cultivate a radio friendly sound that is beginning to turn heads, with Raving Wild quickly blossoming into a real prospect for the future.
