Founded in 2007 to mark the city of Leeds’s 800th birthday, Live at Leeds comes back every year with an irresistible line up, making it one of the North’s best metropolitan festivals.
The Yorkshire metropolis is a pretty cool place without adding this multi-venue party to the mix.
With the return of local post-punk experimentalists iForward Russia! (a TNS favourite circa 2005) and a host of the hottest names including Bipolar Sunshine, Blood Red Shoes, Drenge, Chloe Howl, Ella Eyre, Fuck Buttons, George Ezra, Fat White Family and Wolf Alice, it reads like a who’s who of must see new music.
Elsewhere it throws some serious curve balls in the form of post-metal legends Neurosis and master of bass-heavy vibes The Bug.
Musically this really does only just scratch the surface of an event that covers the very best sounds around.
Classical-house chart-toppers Clean Bandit also take to the stage. Talking to The National Student for our Festival Guide 2014 (out at the start of may) they promised something special for this summers run of gigs, including Live at Leeds.
“We’re completely live and now we have two live vocalists that do every show with us so we’ve got some great consistency now,” they told us. Another Guide interview is with Royal Blood, one of the hottest rock bands in the UK right now who are also set to set the Live at Leeds stage alight. The weekend also offers bar events, football tournaments and talks including the five-year running ‘Unconference’ which gives its attendants access to information from record labels, radio, festivals and bands. And at only £25.00 for a wristband ticket all this comes for a steal!
Line-up: Albert Hammond Jr, Blood Red Shoes, iForward Russia!, Clean Bandit, Drenge, Kodaline, Royal Blood, The Bug, Fuck Buttons, Wolf Alice, Yuck, Neurosis, Chloe Howl, George Ezra
