New Band of the Day: Dark Horses

Dark Horses look like a motorcycle gang caught in the Velvets dark aesthetic. Gloom simply gathers round this group like a cloud.
They are signed to Last Gang Records which sums up their persona beautifully, like the last leather-clad rock gang in town. Not that they sound like that at all.
Debut record Black Music is full of tunes that would have sat nicely on producer Richard Fearless’ album The Contino Sessions with his band Death In Vegas.
It has touches of psychedelia, Velvets-rock and breathy echoey vocals covered in a lovely pop sensibility as if Saint Etienne suddenly got pissed off and discovered feedback.
There’s not a great deal of info about this band except they from Brighton – they do love a bit of mystery. They have also been on the road with the likes of Sigur Ros, Beck and Kasabian – so they must be worth seeing live.
We simply can’t get enough of Black Music and so the news they are covering this fine nation this month for a string of live dates is welcome news.
You can revel in Dark Horses gloom at the following venues on the following dates:
