If you haven’t heard the rumours already then there’s something you should know. Punk is back. Not that it ever went away. New track ‘Friend’ from Glasgow trio Baby Strange is a burst of raw energy and a 70s punk classic, but made now. You get the picture. At a mere two minutes it delivers the conventions of a punk hit – a catchy chorus, compulsory ‘woah’, fuzzy riffs, rough guitar and vocals that near on shouting. ‘Friend’ is a simple classic punk love song that will get amps crackling, heads spinning and nostalgia rolling. The band formed to rebel against the missing excitement in modern music (like every new band since 1977 then) but combining the hidden nihilistic darkness of the track with the brilliant harmonies provided by the two brothers Connaire and Aiden McCann, alongside best friend Johnny Madden, it’s easy to feel the desire to rebel with them.
