British pop punk is undergoing a renaissance in 2014.
A number of bands have come to the fore following the success of Neck Deep’s ground-breaking debut. The latest, and possibly greatest of those being As It Is.
The band’s latest track ‘Horroscopes’ builds upon the New Found Glory blueprint, drawing from their predecessors with a sound that is catchy, yet rough around the edges.
But it is more than a piece of pop punk revivalism, with a sound that is both nostalgic and progressive, combing traditional instrumentation with a hoarse vocal style.
Yes, a British band singing in an American style raises a number of questions regarding authenticity, but As It Is have found a way to beat the system.
The band's vocalists Patty Walters and Benjamin Biss are originally from Minneapolis, but in true British fashion we’re claiming this cultural import as our own.
Pop punk has recently become British rock’s overlooked middle child, but thanks to bands like As It Is, the genre is finally finding its voice again.
