And the nation's favourite dance in a music video is...

Dances are vital to music videos, and can be seen whenever you flick onto the music channels.  Now and again - there are some that get the nation moving along. Dancewear retailer Dance Direct recently conducted a survey that aimed to find out our favourite dance scenes from music videos, and they shared their results with us. They came as somewhat of a… shock.

From school disco classics to recent movers and shakers, the top ten countdown of dances contained them all, however the number one shows how much influence a viral video can have on the charts, and in turn the opinion of the nation.

So, without further ado, let’s get onto the countdown!

10. Michael Jackson – Billie Jean

A mysterious video that captures some of Jackson’s signature moves - whilst lighting up the pavement slabs.What’s not to love?

9. Rocky Horror Picture Show – Time Warp

Even though the video originated from this cult film, it still managed to find itself in the top ten. Seems people can’t get enough of this sweet transvestite…

8. MC Hammer – U Can’t Touch This

The enthusiastic jumping accessorised with those signature ‘hammer pants’ certainly makes this video one to remember!

7. Baauer - Harlem Shake

A surprise entry that demonstrates the power of YouTube. This dance (be it just a sequence of seemingly uncontrollable shaking) turned into an unavoidable craze which attracted fans such as the Norwegian Army - whose video on YouTube received over 94 million views!

6. Madonna - Vogue

Released by Madonna at the height of her career, and the origin of the dance move ‘Voguing’, this iconic video is still a favourite amongst the nation.

5. Beyoncé – Single Ladies

One of the more recent videos to enter the countdown, there’s certainly no denying that this lady can DANCE.  A video that’s all dancing, this song is still a favourite of females both in nightclubs and bedrooms!

4. Los Del Rio – Macarena

A song that is sure to remind you of infant and junior school discos in your old school halls, who doesn’t know the moves to the Macarena! A party hit that’s stood the test of time, it doesn’t look like this dance will be going anywhere soon!

3. Michael Jackson – Bad

The second of Michael Jackson’s entries in this survey rundown, this video was part of an 18 minute film directed by Martin Scorsese, and is one of Jackson’s most loved pieces of work. And of course, features the infamous crotch-grab.

2. Michael Jackson – Thriller

The third, and extremely well deserved, entry for Michael Jackson, this was undeniably THE video of the 80s. Still a Halloween staple, this video is sure to be loved for years to come.

So, we’ve had THREE Michael Jackson videos, the Macarena, Vogue, and even Queen B. Yet these have all been pipped to the post by…

1.      Psy - Gangnam Style?!

Yes, it’s true. Gangnam Style came out number one in the nation’s favourite music video dance. As a result of this video, Psy found himself in the Guinness World Record books for the most liked video on YouTube… EVER.  Although there was a love/hate split of opinion surrounding this, there’s no denying its popularity.

However, it has controversially beaten out three of the king of pop’s iconic videos.  The proof will be in the test of time – will we be galloping to Gangnam in the same way we raise our arms for Thriller in thirty years’ time? Watch this space…
