Reading and Leeds are so popular, so synonymous with mud and music, that it's impossible to imagine the UK festival scene without them.

Reading and Leeds 2013Voted 2012's Best Festival by NME, the sibling sites have sat proudly at the top of UK festivals for decades, yet even they are conscious of the need to pull in the mainstream. Alongside the established indie and heavy rock artists that have always been the festivals’ focus, popular musicians like Wiley, Chase and Status and Skrillex find themselves playing prominent slots, with Eminem set to headline the Main Stage.

Reading and Leeds remain the definitive festival experiences for indie, rock and metal fans.

Green Day and Biffy Clyro complete the Main Stage headliners, while System of a Down and the recently reformed Fall Out Boy are both UK festival exclusives. Still taking place on the August Bank Holiday weekend, the festivals promise to deliver the usual mix of rowdy camping and high quality music, with even more stages and entertainment on offer.

Reading and Leeds are right up there with Glastonbury as festivals that are repeatedly regarded as the definitive festival experience. The line-up this year is already stellar, and less than half of the acts have been announced. Inexplicably, there are still tickets left. Buy one immediately.

Line-up: Green Day, Eminem, Biffy Clyro, Alt-J, Foals, Nine Inch Nails, Skrillex, Bastille and many more.
