Helado Negro is Roberto Carlo Lange. His latest album, Invisible Life, sees him making a switch from Latin guitar and Spanish lyrics to a bilingual, genre-blending electronic album that could well be one of the best this year. This is Latina as you’ve never heard it before. The relaxed tropical rhythms are still there but they’ve been reinvented as shimmering electronic beats. Stand out track 'Dance Ghos't sounds like summer, condensed into song format. Hazy vocals and syncopated synth beats float along in a way that conjures up Caribbean holidays and summer festivals and sweaty clubs all at once.Lange’s music is so laid back that the wonky rhythms and strange bleep-bloops never get annoying. There are celeb appearances aplenty – including Bear in Heaven's Jon Philpot, Mouse on Mars' Jan St. Werner, Devendra Barnhart, Matt Crum and Eduardo Alonso.Invisible Life isn’t officially released here until May 6th on Asthmatic Kitty, but give it a spin on Spotify now and pretend summer has come early.
