Festival preview: Soundwave Croatia

The Garden, Tisno, Croatia
18-22 July

This summer, leave the wellies at home and head to Croatia’s shores for heavy soul DJs, jazz and hip hop from the best of today’s labels. You can even party on a boat. You know, if you like that sort of thing.

Over five days, Soundwave Festival will be celebrating its fifth birthday with a refined selection of the front runners in eclectic music. Expect jazz-infused electronica from Bonobo and Afro-Caribbean beats from Quantic. Alice Russell (who we chatted to recently) will be filling the warm air with soul-inspired sounds, while Homeboy Sandman and Tall Black Guy bring their exciting new hip hop material to the stage.

The boutique festival will be welcoming a whole host of dub-steppers to the decks, too. Outlandish performances are to be expected from Anchorsong, Kidkanevil and Kelpe. Others are out to get crowds pumping, with fast-paced sets from Om Unit and Jonny Dub.

If the unique mash-up of reggae, funk, electronica and ska across three stages wasn’t enough, Soundwave is held in the small town of Tisno, one of the most idyllic locations for the European festivals. Hailed as “the summer’s most beautiful site” by Time Out, the week-long party will be taking place in a secret cove known as The Garden.

Hit Barbarella’s Discotheque or chill at beachside Tiki Bar. But above all, don’t miss the 200-capacity boat parties on the clear waters of the Adriatic Sea, captained by top DJs and record labels.

The line-up: Bonobo, Robert Glasper, Quantic & Ondatropica, Ghostpoet, Andreya Triana, Alice Russell, Riot Jazz, Mr Thing & Yungin, Om Unit, Elephino, Cheeba.
