Andy Bargh, James McElvar, Jack Robertson, Ryan Donaldson and Lewis Irons. If you’ve not heard these names before, then you should probably take note. Brought together by the lady who created X-Factor’s very own Union J, they make up Scotland’s newest five-piece boy band “Rewind” and they’re ready to take the UK by storm. In their first ever interview, they talk about their music, who inspires them, and what they'd like from the future.

RewindThey might be fairly new, but they’re already being labelled as the ‘Scottish One Direction’ by many.  It seems, though, that this is a tag which might not actually fit.

“We don’t want to be identified as ‘A Scottish One Direction’ or ‘a Scottish The Wanted’,” says Andy, “so we've worked on finding our own style.”

“We haven't really paid attention to whats current and popular at the moment and just worked on creating music we love. It’s big songs with big hooks that you can’t help but sing along too. They are infectious,” adds James.

Whilst their musical style is currently being kept pretty tightly under wraps, they’ve been working hard together to create a sound that fits.

James said: “We’ve really focused on our sound as a band, it’s been interesting having five different people come together to make music. We have different styles and some differing musical tastes so it’s made a really cool sound.”

What we do know though, is that they’ve been given quite a bit of freedom - writing and creating their own songs together as a group. As well as this, they’ve been working on some covers.

James said:  “We’ve been lucky enough to work with some incredible names, we can’t believe our luck. We all have a hand in writing and creating music together which has really helped us bond and grow as a band.”

Before they came together, only Andy and Lewis knew each other (they’re flatmates at uni.) The band itself was brought together through auditions, and the final line up was confirmed shortly after.

Andy was asked to audition for the band after his songs were heard on YouTube. He started doing this after realising that one of his main inspirations in the music industry (Justin Bieber) actually did the same thing. “[He’s an inspiration] mainly because of where he is now just from putting up a few videos on YouTube. That’s why I put up videos of me singing on YouTube as I thought there’s no harm in trying! Although the videos are me singing solo, I was spotted and asked to audition for the band, so even a fraction of his [Bieber’s] success would be amazing!”

Bieber isn’t their only inspiration though. “For a boy in a boy band it is safe to say One Direction are a huge inspiration. What they have achieved in such a short space of time is incredible. But as a young boy I was really inspired by Will Smith. He was just so cool,” says Lewis.

“I think Emeli Sandé would be great [to work with]!” adds Jack, “She’s killing it at the moment.”

So, what are their hopes for the future? Well, they started recording their music today (February 19th) – and this could lead anywhere.  Lewis said that in five years’ time, he’d like to have: “Cracked America and [be] loved by people all over the world. A boy can dream!”

“I'd love to have a tour bus! Imagine the stories we could share,” adds Ryan.

They’d also love to do a UK tour, and Jack also said "I think winning a Brit would be incredible."

To this, James adds: "I think we've actually rehearsed our acceptance speech for our first Brit!"
