Doldrums is the pseudonym of Canadian musician and producer Airick Woodhead, known for his keys and bass contribution to now defunct Spiral Beach. Woodhead has previously released two 7” singles, a sample heavy EP titled Empire Sound, and a three track EP called ‘Egypt’. The latter will feature on his debut album Lesser Evil, due for release February 26 on Arbutus Records. In October, Doldrums premiered his groundbreaking 7” ;She Is The Wave’ which features fellow Canadian producer and beat maker Guy Dallas. Doldrums made a name for himself in the underground electronic scene in Toronto, then worked with artists as Grimes on her third studio album Visions. The future looks bright for Doldrums as he looks set to take 2013 to the next level, after signing with Souterrain Transmissions for European releases. Souterrain Transmissions is home of many independent artists championing their own sound, such as EMA, Moon Duo and Marnie Stern. Doldrums gave fans and critics a look into his new album when he leaked the second track ‘Anomaly’. Think 1980s Berlin and the American synthpop new wavers who gave us Top Gun's ‘Take My Breath Away’, it’s spellbinding. After being picked up by Pitchfork, Stereogum and The Guardian, there’s no denying that Doldrums has an expectation to deliver with Lesser Evil. Doldrums will be playing two dates in the UK this month, Corsica Studios in London on February 20 and Prince Albert in Brighton on February 21.
