The longlist for the BBC’s Sound of 2013 has been released, featuring some of the best new acts that we should be ready to look out for next year.

The annual list is compiled of up and coming new acts, who have not yet broken into the UK top 20 or become well-known to the British public. They were nominated this year by 213 DJs, bloggers, critics and others who were asked to pick their three favourite new acts.

The winner will be revealed on Friday 4th January, after Huw Stephens announces the final three acts one by one on BBC Radio 1 from the 2nd.

This year’s list is comprised of:

-          AlunaGeorge

-          A*M*E

-          Angel Haze

-          Arlissa

-          Chvrches

-          HAIM

-          King Krule

-          Kodaline

-          Laura Mvula

-          Little Green Cars

-          Palma Violets

-          Peace

-          Tom Odell

Kodaline previously featurted as TNS's New Band of the Day, and The Weeknd also came to our attention in 2011 - read our review of his third mixtape here

The BBC Sound Of... does have a good success rate of predicting artists who will make it. Past winners have included Jessie J, Adele and Mika, while artists such as Florence And The Machine and Plan B have made it into the top five.

More information about the Sound of 2013 can be found on the website, which features profiles of all 15 nominated artists.
