New Band of the Day: iamwhoiamwhoami

Like her 'Bounty' video campaign before, Jonna Lee (aka iamamiwhoami) reveals herself after being shrouded by an enigmatic haze. Her latest project first came to light in February through a YouTube video and, through fortnightly chunks, subsequent video releases would form her debut album Kin. The videos are pretty elaborate: Jonna Lee is prominent throughout as she saunters through vast landscapes as hairy giants surround her. Whilst they are gorgeous videos, the music itself is a strong enough treat on its own. Glacial, enveloping and catchy, Lee's debut is a hypnotic blend of electro and art-pop. There are imprints of Portishead's melancholy in opener 'Sever' and bits of Kraftwerk in 'Good Worker.' Unsurprisingly there's a icy sheen throughout, be it in the SBTRKT influenced 'Idle Talk' or the M83 indebted 'In Due Order.' Now firmly in the spotlight Lee's one to watch out for, although that might be a little difficult should she use the same campaign for her next release. iamamiwhoami - In due order ( Milton Channels Rework ) by miltonchannels
