The latest band to come under the radar is folk five piece Skinny Lister. Their traditional, energetic brand of folk have drawn favourable comparisons to the likes of The Pogues and The Dubliners. They describe their music as ‘perceptive ballads and folkie idylls boosted by an eruption of a rambunctious free spirited rum fueled party music’. Contemporary folk isn’t usually associated with drinking and partying, but TNS will be last to object! The band are all about having fun and their live shows are a must see. Their enthusiasm is infectious and punters are drawn in by their charming, lively performances. Their legendary live shows have led to the band gaining the coveted spot on this year’s Warped Tour in the USA as the band look to break the USA. 'If The Gaff Don’t Let Us Down' is a track that epitomises the band and their mantra. It is a song meant to be sung along to as the band combine upbeat violins with a thumping and a chorus filled with gang vocals enticing the listener to join in. Lyrically is a love song from the band on the road to England with frontman Daniel Heptinstall declaring ‘lets raise a glass to England, she will be a pretty sight’ in a rousing song filled with patriotism. Skinny Lister are a welcome addition to the UK folk scene and are well worth a listen. With a quickly growing profile it will be no surprise if the band rise to prominence very soon.
