New Band of The Day: Daytona Lights

Having regularly featured on Hollyoaks and played at the Houses of Parliament, Daytona lights already have more than a few feathers in their cap. Their cheery indie-pop has earned plaudits all-round, and has led to regular radio play, with Huw Stephens championing the band. Clearly the future looks bright for the London based five piece.

Their sound is fairly unique, akin to Little Comets with their stripped-down guitars, infectious chants and driving drum beats. With an evident energy in their music, it’s no surprise they have caught the attention of many a critic and DJ.

'Lillian' is a testament to their catchiness. Front-man Dan Lawrence’s vocals perfectly compliment the spiky guitars and the background vocals very much drive the song. It is an effortlessly brilliant effort that is bound to have crowds on their feet and singing back every word.

White Horses is a similarly harmony rich track, however the percussion really comes into the fore and is a leading element in the song. Lyrically it is a simpler affair, but the vocals effectively merge with the drums to create a highly dynamic track.

The band already seems to be ticking all the right boxes at the moment. They have an original sound, mainstream appeal and a charming character that has rightly brought the band thus far. It would be foolish to bet against these boys making a name for themselves, they are truly ones to watch this year.
