DaughterI only recently discovered the beautifully elegant vocals of Elena Tonra with the complimenting sounds of Igor Haefeli, on guitar, and Remi Aguilella, on drums, who make up this aural breath of fresh air.

‘Throw me in the water don’t think about the splash I will create’ (‘Landfill’)

Elena’s lyrics are stripped down, poetic observations on life and romance, that leave no emotional stone unturned.

At first Daughter was a simple solo act with 21-year-old Elena providing both the underlying soulful rhythm on her guitar and the soft yet unforgettable vocals.

Her debut album His Young Heart’ was released on 20th April 2011 and features four personal tracks.

Not long after, her now partner, Igor joined Daughter when they met whilst attending a songwriting course at North London Music School.

Later Remi joined and the band’s sound changed, making it even better and bigger than before.

They are described as experimental folk, but don’t judge them bythe folk stereotype as they are so much more.

An electronic twist adds a little something extra to the mesmerising sound and definitely brings something different to the table.

In interviews Elena has complimented Igor and said that he is the one who brings the texture to the music which otherwise would just sound like another average folk song.

Since Elena’s debut album the trio together have released the next of Daughters compilations ‘The Wild Youth’ which was released on 11th November 2011.

There is a noticeable difference and growth in their music with new depths being explored producing lyrical genius and a masterpiece of sound.

Daughter are definitely deserving and worthy of recognition.
