Silent devices are a band that effortlessly deliver an intensity of emotion complimented by serene and atmospheric instrumentals. Their refined brand of ambient rock is captivating yet delicate, with each melody carefully crafted to create dreamy, heartfelt tracks.
The focus is very much on the melody in Silent Devices’ sound, with the vocals almost distant, yet the lyrics reveal a darkness to the band, with lines such as ‘If your life is dream you won’t feel it all when you’re hurt’, depicting the music as a dream like escape from reality.
Vocalist Josh Coyne’s voice is soothing, shielding the listener from the often melancholy lyrics and providing an enjoyably enigmatic listen.
Upcoming single Una epitomises what this band is all about. The delicate layering in the two minute instrumental introduction displays a level of beauty that few bands could dream to achieve and wouldn’t sound out of place on a Sigur Rós album. And the vocals add to the experience, bringing the track to a hopeful, anthemic conclusion as Coyne declares ‘we don’t need help, we all need a place to go’
2012 looks to be a very bright year for Silent devices, as they prepare to release their double sided Una/Moire single, which should grant the band greater acclaim and make them truly one to watch.
