I love Benjamin Shaw. It's been so long since I heard an acoustic artist with as much passion, as much longing, as much honesty, and as much raw deepness as London via Blackpool's Shaw.He has a new album out titled There's Always Hope, There's Always the Cabernet. It's wonderfully profound insight into Shaw's detachment from mundane part-time employment, his poverty in London and his longing to return to Blackpool. Musically, he never really goes anywhere (in a good way). Most of the time it sounds messy and ramshackle: instruments sound worn appearing at seemingly random points and certain notes never harmonise properly. It’s a perfect representation of his feelings though and comes across as nothing short of charming. There's a wonderful quaintness to it that's not too far from Elbow's Build a Rocket Boys.
