From: New York via DenmarkMembers: Nanna Øland FabriciusBackground: Oh Land (aka Nanna Øland Fabricius) caused quite some, erm…buzz, last week when she released her cover of The National’s ‘Bloodbuzz Ohio.’ Finding a good cover is usually like finding a needle in a haystack, but thankfully Nanna’s cover does the original justice: an electro-pop take on the American’s original - her voice sounds just as chilling and atmospheric as Matt Berninger’s. Up until the release of her recent self-titled second album (her first international release) in March, Nanna’s profile was relatively low outside her native Copenhagan – debut Fauna reaching critical acclaim from our Scandinavian cousins. She’s also had a little stint in acting as a supporting role in the Danish movie Hvid nat. Thanks to her second release, and quite rightly so, she’s been gaining the attention she deserves. Track ‘Wolf & I’ mixes the enveloping ether of Natasha Khan with a teeny weeny bit of dub-ish bass, whilst ‘Sun of a Gun’ has the potential to spark off some kind of tribal rave. If you fancy delving a bit deeper, you wouldn’t go wrong with Fauna. ‘Still Here’ is a joyful mish-mash of bubbly pop not so far from, Bjork whilst ‘Heavy Eyes’ is a pounding smorgasbord of glitching trip-hop drum samples – although her vocal does grate a bit on this track. If anything, that’s our main criticism. Her voice often switches from cringe worthy warping to the captivating confidence of Lykke Li. Still, we wouldn’t be surprised if she became just as popular as Lykke Li.Listen To: Wolf and I and Bloodbuzz Ohio.Similar To: Bat for Lashes and Lykke Li.Links: www.ohlandmusic.comOh Land - Bloodbuzz Ohio (The National cover) by The Line Of Best FitWolf & I by OhLand
