If you’re heading to uni in London next month, there’s no excuse not to try all of the exciting things that are going on in the capital city all the time. Whether you’re a thrill seeker or just looking for a chilled night on the town, there’s something for everyone.

West Londoner Hollie knows more than most students about what our capital city has to offer. Here she gives us a sneak peak of what those new to the city definitely shouldn't miss...

1. Speed boat on the River Thames

Location: Embankment

Hollie says: “A super-fun experience and awesome way to see more of London if you’re new to the city. There’s also a James Bond themed bit, which makes you feel like you’re in the movie. More exciting than the standard Thames river boat cruise.”

2. Camden Market

Location: Camden

Hollie says: “One of the most bizarre and quirky places in London. There are so many cool market stalls where you can buy cheap clothes, accessories, books, antiques, artwork and loads more. The food stalls are incredible; you can buy food from almost anywhere in the world. If you’re feeling impulsive there’s also loads of tattoo and piercing studios.”

3. The secret bar at the BFI

Location: Southbank

Hollie says: “If you love films the BFI is the perfect place to go, with screenings of new and old films all the time in a great London location. There’s a bar and kitchen at the BFI but for a more private experience, there’s a secret cocktail bar hidden behind a bookcase - and you can hire it out for parties!”.

4. The Sky Garden

Location: 5 Rood Ln (Near Monument)

Hollie says: “The Sky Garden has a really amazing view of London with a several restaurants to eat and drink, and unlike the Shard, it’s free to get in!”

5. Blues Kitchen

Location: Shoreditch, Camden, Brixton

Hollie says: “A restaurant and bar which does incredible Texan BBQ and Cajun cuisine with music seven nights a week (like soul and swing nights)”.

6. Soho’s Murder Mile

Location: Soho

Hollie says: “Everyone has done the Jack the Ripper walk, so the Soho Murder Mile tells you a bit more about some of the notorious murderers in London, with 18 murderers, over 21 locations and 75 deaths over barely a mile”.

7. Watch a film outdoors

Location: Various locations

Hollie says: “There are outdoor screenings of films happening all the time in London. There’s The Luna Cinema, The Rooftop Cinema, and pop up screens all over the place. If you keep an eye on what’s coming up, you might be able to watch your favourite film outdoors on the big screen.”

8. All Stars Lanes Brick Lane

Location: Brick Lane

Hollie says: “An American roll ‘n’ roll themed bowling alley, karaoke bar, and restaurant all in one. What more could you want!?"

9. The Candlelight Club

Location: A secret London location

Hollie says: “A 1920s themed speakeasy cocktail bar with live jazz bands and lots of dancing…and it's completely lit by candles!”

10. Bungee Jump

Location: The O2 coachpark

Hollie says: “A 160ft bungee jump off of a crane which gives you amazing views of the O2 and London. It’s such an incredible thrill and perfect for adrenaline junkies”.

11. Linley Sambourne House

Location: High Street Kensington

Hollie says: “Something a bit more chilled, but still really worth seeing, is the home of former Punch illustrator Edward Linley Sambourne, who lived from 1844 to 1910. With most of his original rooms and furniture still intact it’s a really unique museum experience."

12. Escape Rooms

Location: London Bridge

Hollie says: “If you’re a fan of The Crystal Maze this is definitely something to try. Being locked in a room full of lazers, riddles, codes, and secret compartments is enough to get the panic and adrenaline going.”
