Valentines Day is soon approaching. For some, it’s a day full of romancing, chocolates, dinner dates and all the clichés associated with this celebration of love. For others, however, it’s a day where singles tend to get neglected - and shouldn’t everyone deserve a bit of fun? We’ve got some suggestions as to how you can spend February 14th this year, whether you’re in a relationship or just want to spend some time with your best mates.

1. Do something adventourous

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be all about formal dates. Why not do something a bit unexpected this year and step out of your comfort zone?

For the couples, there’s the chance to win a hot-air balloon ride for two with a glass of bubbly each, courtesy of Virgin Balloon Flights, as well as two bunches of gorgeous red roses from Bunches.

If you and your partner (or your friends) like getting active, Ice Rink Canary Wharf in London are offering 5 pairs of tickets to go ice skating, guaranteeing you a whirlwind night out in the cold. Alternatively, larger groups could try out indoor golfing, or even an indoor roller disco!

2. Pick up a new hobby

Valentines Day is a perfect opportunity to test-drive a shared interest between you and your partner. If you’re looking for a cultured night out, why not give paint jamming a go? This centre in London is even offering a unique evening experience, allowing you to paint your own version of the iconic Gustav Klimt “The Kiss painting” on canvas for you to take home, whilst sipping on champagne. Foodies might consider taking part in a cooking lesson or a tasting tour. Additionally, photography lessons could also be beneficial for those looking to capture the perfect shot of their loved ones and best friends, or indeed, a selfie!

3. Grab some food

The way to a person’s heart is through their stomach. Instead of splurging out on restaurants that are bound to inflate their prices on this special day, why not opt for something a little more low-key, like pizza and wine?

If you’re sharing Valentine’s Day with your mates this year or double-dating, Pizza Express are giving you the chance to enter two amazing prize draws; dinner for two worth £50 and a pizza party, and are extending their 40% off your bill to Wednesdays as well as their usual Mondays and Tuesdays for a limited time only (02/02/15 – 25/03/15). Check http://www.nus.org.uk/en/nus-extra/pizza-express-valentines-day-one/ for more details.

4.Travel

For those of you feeling extravagant, a surprise weekend getaway is bound to please your partner, be it a spontaneous trip to Paris or a relaxing spa getaway in the countryside. If you’re looking for a low-budget getaway, return train tickets from London to Brighton can cost less than £15 if you book early, or for the outdoorsy lovers, camping is always a great option, though definitely not for the faint-hearted in this weather!

Additionally, if you and your friends fancy bagging yourself a holiday of a lifetime, Real Gap and Awaken Ibiza  have got great competitions running that you won’t want to miss out on.

Have a safe, fun and memorable Valentine's Day!
