Long before Meghan Markle was a future HRH she was a student at Northwestern University in Illinois and a member of sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma.
To celebrate her recent engagement to Prince Harry, her former sorority shared a throwback photo of a young Markle. In an interview with Allure, she spoke about exploring her bi-racial identity at university: “I took an African-American studies class at Northwestern where we explored colourism. “It was the first time I could put a name to feeling too light in the black community, too mixed in the white community.” She graduated from Northwestern in 2003, where she initally majored in Communications before changing to a double-major in International Studies and Theatre. After graduation Markle pursued acting. In 2011 she landed the role of paralegal Rachel Zane in Suits, a part she played for seven seasons before departing recently as her engagement was announced. It is clear Northwestern alumni and current students are proud of their soon-to-be royal connections. She wasn't always a future duchess. Once upon a time, Prince Harry's betrothed was just a communications major at Northwestern. https://t.co/FczpMGhp2u pic.twitter.com/62ipOLZBYn
