Donald Trump’s face-off with North Korea has made more than a few people terrified

Donald Trump’s latest message to North Korea that further threats against the US “will be met with fire and fury” has created panic among online observers. The American president’s combative rhetoric came amidst reports that the communist nation may have successfully produced a miniaturised nuclear warhead that can fit inside its missiles. In a statement at his golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey, Trump said: “North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States. They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen. “He (Kim Jong-Un) has been very threatening beyond a normal staple, and as I said, they will be met with fire, fury and, frankly, power – the likes of which this world has never seen before.” Observers noted the straight-talking New Yorker’s sharp warning struck an even more acerbic tone than usual, following a period of increased tension with North Korea in recent weeks. The dictatorship has attracted widespread condemnation after refusing to step back from aspirations of becoming a fully-fledged nuclear power, despite strong warnings from members of the UN Security Council. The Council introduced its toughest-ever measures against North Korea over the weekend, after a unanimous decision rendered the impoverished nation unable to export coal and other goods in retaliation for multiple missile tests and public threats against the United States. But Trump’s harsh tone has proved unwelcome by many who question whether he should be taking a more diplomatic approach. It has yet to be seen if North Korea will respond to the warning, but the country’s previous insistence that sanctions were a “violent infringement of its sovereignty” is unlikely to be softened by the President’s latest statement.
