Marlène Schiappa, recently appointed gender equality minister of France, thinks offenders of sexual harassment should be fined €5,000 on the spot.

Sexual harassment is a problem everywhere, but is especially noticeable in France, and referred to as a “huge phenomenon” by Schiappa.

Schiappa believes this major issue stems from men claiming the persona of the “French lover” and generally taking the problem too lightly.

Schiappa believes only a large fine will make an impact on the actions of sexual harassment perpetrators in France.

Schiappa has reiterated the importance of fighting back to the men who claim this is “not a big deal.” She is adamant on working to change the situation and has plans to discuss her idea with France’s justice secretary.
