The question remains, however, of why it took over an hour for McDonald's to address the tweet and why there was no apology, with many calling on Trump supporters to instead order their fast-food from Burger King.
Twitter notified us that our account was compromised. We deleted the tweet, secured our account and are now investigating this.— McDonald's (@McDonaldsCorp) March 16, 2017
Others however praised McDonald's, with one verified Twitter user asking the account to republish the tweet:
@McDonalds I'll never eat your shit food again. I call for all trump supporters to eat Burger King. U lost millions of customers. Go trump!— I LOVE NFL (@ed2shred99) March 16, 2017
The tweet did raise speculation around the hacker´s motivations, with news sources quickly pointing out that the current Chief Communications Officer for the fast-food chain restaurant served in the first term of the Obama Administrastion as White House Press Secretary, as well as playing various roles in other presidential campaigns. It also raises the question of where Donald Trump will now buy his burgers from, with the Preisdent being a long-time fan of a McDonald's burger.
@McDonaldsCorp I'll buy 100 McNuggets right now if you put the tweet back up.— Pete Haas (@dimeford) March 16, 2017
