Drop all other travel plans, because very soon you’ll be able to fly to the good old US of A for the less than the cost of a train from London to Scotland. In news that will make weekend breaks to the US much more accessible for the relatively cash strapped amongst us, our new favourite airline WOW air has launched flights to Washington DC and Boston for just £99 one way. With this ridiculously low price costing less than a few train journeys we could point out (ahem, National Rail), we wouldn’t blame you for sacking off any other plans that you might have and jumping on a plane right now. Or, you know, booking tickets to do so in a few months. Seats are available to book now, but the first flights will depart in March next year. First up are the flights to Boston’s Logan International Airport, beginning on 27th March, and they’ll swiftly be followed by those to Baltimore Washington International on 4th June. WOW air is Iceland’s only low cost airline, and all flights leave from Gatwick and stop off in Reykjavik for a layover of around an hour. The routes, as you might have guessed, are the very cheapest way to get between Europe and North America. From Boston, you can also get into New York in four hours on the train (slightly less if you hire a car) – so a trip incorporating the two cities doesn’t sound like a bad idea. Those looking to WOW air as the cheapest way into NYC shouldn’t overlook Boston and Washington DC themselves, though – the latter is, of course, the nation’s capital and worth a visit – especially since next year will see a whole host of activity to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. The £99 fare includes all taxes, undercutting most other airlines we can think of by miles. God bless America! You can book tickets on the WOW air website here.
