Although the best games of 2016 are still fresh in our minds, it’s impossible not to be excited for what’s to come.

Recently delayed or just announced, gamers are already aware of some of 2017’s biggest game releases, including exciting new worlds and ideas, and greatly anticipated sequels. These are some of the most anticipated games landing in 2017.

Injustice 2

Genre: Fighter

Platform: Xbox One, PS4

Our favourite heroes and villains such as Batman and Superman are back to fight in out in the explosive sequel to InjusticeInjustice 2! This new game is packed full of fanservice for any player with even the smallest knowledge of DC Comics.

Injustice 2 includes a new addition to its gameplay with the option of different gear in the fighting game. The gear will be gathered over time to create a personalised look and give your character enhanced abilities.

Days Gone

Genre: Shooter

Platform: PS4

Bored of zombies? If yes, this game may change your mind. This apocalyptic world offers players the not technically undead Freakers. Described as ‘Feral infected Humans’ these monsters may not be classed as undead but they are certainly eager to devour the protagonist, Deacon.

What sets this game apart from other zombie shooters is the sheer number of Freakers that can be coming at you at once, sometimes flooding the environment. So, future players of this freaky shoot out, get ready to RUN.

Prey

Genre: Shooter

Platform: Xbox One, PC, PS4

Forget the 2006 FPS Prey, this re-made, re-imagined game of the same name, Prey, chucks everything of its former self in the trash.

The Arkane Studios-developed sci-fi shooter has players trapped on an over run space station which is under attack from shadow-like aliens that have the ability to shapeshift. Players take the part of protagonist Morgan YU as he struggles to survive, fight back and hold onto his diminishing sanity.

Horizon Zero Dawn

Genre: Action RPG

Platform: PS4

This open-world RPG promises an exciting new experience for RPG fans with some pretty cool features, which include its own unique universe, an in-depth story full of fate, destiny and identity, awesome combat options and numerous weapons to choose from. Oh, and (of course) rampaging robotic dinosaurs. The last game feature may be unexpected but its nearly here and we're certainly excited.

For Honor

Genre: Fighter

Platform: PC, Xbox One, PS4

This melee combat 4v4 multiplayer game pits Vikings, knights and samurai against one another in chaotic duels set in destructive battle fields. The game’s combat gameplay is excellent due to is detailed graphics and impressively fluid movements. This game is everything a deadliest warrior gamer could want.

Mass Effect: Andromeda

Genre: Action RPG

Platform: PC, Xbox One, PS4

Commander Shepard may have saved the day, but the adventure in the Mass Effect universe is far from over. The details for Mass Effect: Andromeda have been kept closely under wrap by BioWare, although the revealed footage certainly reveals a slick look for the game.

From what we know of the game so far, it seems that the storyline will take players on a journey to find a new home for humanity. The game will also include many of the original's features such as romances, conversations and lots of shooting things. We cannot wait to get back into the action.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Genre: Horror

Platform: PC, Xbox One, PS4

The seventh instalment of the Resident evil franchise brings players a taste of the old games by giving us Survival Horror. Players explore the game through first person and the environments are certainly dark. The demo for the game has already terrified gamers and we are excited for the full experience. Get ready for huge frights...

God of War

Genre: Fighter

Platform: PS4

The fourth entry to the chillingly brutal PlayStation series sees Kratos ‘controlling’ his never-ending rage as he becomes a father figure to an anonymous boy with lightening powers. But you mustn’t worry, as you will still face many fantastical beasts along the way. Just expect a lot more quieter moments between the slaying and deeper character development.

Persona 5

Genre: RPG

Platform: PS4, PS3

February 2017 sees the release of Persona 5. The RPG still follows high school students with magical powers in a stylised world, the game is a dramatic change in tone for the Persona series. Unlike the previous games, Persona 5 follows a group of young cat burglars. After a long wait gamers are dying to get their hands on this new game.  

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Genre: Action RPG

Platform: Wii U, Nintendo NX

When the newest instalment of Zelda arrives in 2017, The Zelda franchise will be 30. Years. Old. This game, and series, will not only debut on the Nintendo Wii U but also on the new Nintendo NX.

With a new open-world that promotes highly monster infested wilderness, rather than populated landscapes and long cut scenes, Breath of the Wild is a brilliantly dramatic shift in tone for this legendary series.
