Featuring massive VR experiences, gaming celebrities and over £12,500 in prize money, the Insomnia Festival will be back in Birmingham this year for its 59th edition to entertain and astonish thousands of gaming and tech fans.

With a turnout of over 66,000 last year, the festival is one of the biggest in the country and it will take place in the weekend of the 9th and the 11th of December, as a huge countdown on the website announces.

Amidst the numerous events, drone racing will definitely be under the spotlight.The £5,000 prize up for grab will attract top pilots from around the UK, as the Drone Racing iSeries is the biggest indoor championship in Europe.

Gaming celebrities will also play a key role at the event. Minimuka, 8-Bit Gaming and Gameboy Luke are just some of the YouTube stars that will be participating in stage shows, panel talks, and Q&A sessions.

As far as the strictly gaming side is concerned, the festival will feature LAN gaming areas, free-to-enter tournaments, Retro and Cosplay zones, a Tabletop Gaming Area, plus an exhibition hall set up to promote upcoming games and sell all kinds of tech and games.

Among the most anticipated tournaments that will take place, a few need to be mentioned here. Overwatch, Counter Strike and Battlefield 1 are keeping the hype high as gamers gather from all over the world to face each other in this friendly competition.

And even if you are coming from far, Insomnia has got it covered. On the event website, you can find a list of local hotels with listed distances and prices, and even an Indoor Camping option for the most dedicated players.
