Christmas is almost knocking on the door.  And with it come the Christmas dinners, parties and lunches. We all plan the food weeks ahead but sometimes the drinks are left a bit behind. And that should definitely not be the case, for a good meal will leave your guests full but the drink to accompany it is what is going to make them merry.

And while you might be thinking that mulled wine and Baylis is a given, why not take a little bit of a less traditional approach, stun your closest ones and celebrate Christmas the Tennessee way- with Jack Daniels-inspired cocktails. Not only can you show off some bartending skills but you can be the talk of the town. Or the student halls at least.

And while you’re mixing the drinks, don’t forget to include some history as well. It is true, that everyone loves a drink with a story.

In this particular case your guests might be surprised to learn that “Jack”’s real name was actually Jasper. Mr Jasper Newton ‘Jack’ Daniel was an independent spirit who registered his distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee in 1866, next to the cool, cave spring water at ‘the hollow’, which just happens to be perfect for making whiskey. And, to this day every drop of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey still comes from the same place. Talk about following traditions!

Some more trivia- Mr. Jack’s whiskey still follows a process pioneered back in the 1800’s where the unaged whiskey is ‘mellowed’ drop by drop through 10 feet of sugar maple charcoal – a process the folks in Tennessee call ‘The Extra Blessing’ which gives the whiskey unrivalled smoothness. This extra step makes a bottle of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey just that, a Tennessee Whiskey and not a Bourbon. And people to this day argue about that, trust us!

But, now when you have your story all set up, let’s get down to business and make some cocktails!
