Companies to watch this Black Friday

The annual shopping extravaganza Black Friday sees organisations slashing the prices of thousands of their products in hopes to boost sales over the festive period.

The tradition came from America, and takes place on the first Friday after Thanksgiving, falling on Friday 25th November this year. In the US many people have the day of workm and as a result Black Friday is one of the busiest shopping days of the year. 

To keep up with the techy times, there is also Cyber Monday, where similar deals pop up all over the internet - this year the event will be on the 28th November. 

Companies to watch

Amazon started their Black Friday Sale 12 days early, starting on Monday 14th November, and are having 50% off ‘Lightning Deals’ up until the 25th. Don’t forget, you can sign up for a 30-day free trial of Amazon Prime for early access to deals and express delivery. 

Argos are running 13 consecutive days of deals running up to Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Expect to see thousands of deals on tech, toys and electronics. In-demand products such as VR headsets, 4K TVs and Fitbit wristbands are also expected to see huge price drops.

Currys and PC World’s ‘Black Tag’ event is now on in the run up to the main event on Friday, where you can see hundreds of deals on top tech products. Last year, 30 TVs were sold every minute on Black Friday, and top deals included up to £600 off HP laptops, £200 off LG and Samsung TVS and over £100 off coffee machines. 

Expect up to 50% off games, consoles and accessories in GAME’s Black Friday event. You can currently purchase Xbox and game bundles for £199.99 and PS4 consoles including game and gift card for £249.99. 

Tesco have promised this year to be their ‘biggest ever Black Friday event’ with 11 days of savings on their website. Last year’s deals included two-thirds off the price of Beats headphones, mobile phones and laptops. Over 700 stores will open at 5am on Black Friday for access to even more deals. 

Apple have teased a one-day shopping event for Black Friday, writing on their website that ‘Friday can’t come soon enough’. In the past the tech company has been inconsistent with their Black Friday promotions and chose to sit out on the event last year. The last time Apple participated was in 2013, when they offered around 5 to 10% off their products. 

Ryanair has launched eight days of deals as a part of their ‘Cyber Week’ promotion ahead of Black Friday. 500,000 seats up to 15% cheaper. Top deals include £9.99 one-way flights to Barcelona, Venice and Frankfurt.

Thomas Cook have teased a ‘Sunny’ Black Friday event and are currently offering £50 off Summer 2017 holidays. First Choice are also participating in Black Friday and are offering a similar deal - £50 off the next holiday you book. Keep an eye out for more deals on Friday and you might bag yourself a cheap holiday! 

Last year over £3.3bn was spent over the weekend of Black Friday and Cyber Monday and Black Friday was the biggest for online retail ever, with online retail giant Amazon selling more than 7.4 million items. So, will you be facing the crowds on Black Friday or sitting eagerly at your laptop waiting for the best online deals...?
