Terrier Max (voiced by Patton Oswalt) is coping with some major life changes. His owner (Ellie Kemper) is now married and has a toddler. Max is so worried about protecting his new little boy that he develops a nervous tic. In an effort to help reduce some of that anxiety, a family trip to a farm shows Max and his mutt friend Duke (voiced by Eric Stonestreet) encountering all sorts of terrifying creatures - all of which only elevates Max’s anxiety. Luckily, Max gets some guidance from veteran farm dog Rooster (Harrison Ford, making his animated-film debut), who tries to help Max find his inner alpha.

The trailer also shows the return of everyone’s favourite plucky Pomeranian Gidget (voiced by Jenny Slate) as she tries to rescue Max’s favourite toy from a cat-packed apartment. This will hopefully be accomplished with a little help from her feline friend, Chloe (Lake Bell), who has discovered the joys of catnip.

Snowball (featuring the return of Kevin Hart) gets delusions of grandeur that he’s an actual superhero after his owner starts dressing him in superhero pyjamas. But when Daisy (Tiffany Haddish), a fearless Shih Tzu, shows up to ask for Snowball’s help on a dangerous mission, he’ll have to summon the courage to become the hero he’s only been pretending to be.

Following the highly successful original story, The Secret Life of Pets 2 trailer takes a look beyond the humour and asks some serious questions about the emotional states of our favourite furry friends.

The Secret Life of Pets 2 is in UK Cinemas 24th May 2019.
