Charlotte Field (Charlize Theron) is one of the most influential women in the world. Smart, sophisticated, and accomplished, she’s a powerhouse diplomat with a talent for… well, mostly everything. Clearly modelled after Hillary Clinton, complete with the signature pantsuits and the patented wave, she’s very clearly a woman on a mission, who seemingly has the world at her fingertips.

In contrast, the trailer also introduces us to Fred Flarsky (played by Seth Rogen) who is a gifted yet free-spirited journalist with a self-destructive streak. While he appears to have great talent, it seems he has no constructive outlet as his boss often chastises him for being “too much.” These two have nothing in common, except that she was his baby sitter and first crush.

When Fred unexpectedly reunites with Charlotte, he charms her with his self-deprecating humour and his memories of her youthful idealism. As she prepares to make a run for the presidency, Charlotte impulsively hires Fred as her speechwriter, much to the dismay of her trusted advisors. Despite their misgivings, the trailer shows us Fred has suddenly become a trusted member of the team.

Due to his clearly unqualified status, the trailer shows us a delightful montage of Fred’s “fish out of water” lifestyle while on Charlotte’s elite team. Despite his talents and contributions, the trailer makes it abundantly clear Fred is unprepared for her glamorous and high-stakes lifestyle. However, sparks fly as their unmistakable chemistry leads to a round-the-world romance that becomes embroiled in a series of dangerous and outlandish incidents.

Long Shot is available in UK cinemas on Friday 3rd May, 2019
